Frequently Asked Questions
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based talking therapy. CBT helps you understand how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours interact.
CBT is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), which provides national guidelines for treating mental health difficulties including anxiety, depression, and related conditions. It’s a well-established, evidence-based approach that supports emotional wellbeing.
More about CBT
CBT explores the connection between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. In therapy, you and your therapist work together to understand these patterns and how they affect your life. By gently exploring and shifting unhelpful thoughts or behaviours, CBT can help you feel more in control and improve your emotional wellbeing.
It’s collaborative and goal-focused, supporting you to break unhelpful patterns, build coping skills, and create lasting change.
More about CBT
CBT is used to help people manage a range of mental health difficulties, including anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, and low self-esteem. It focuses on changing unhelpful patterns in thinking and behaviour to improve emotional wellbeing.

Your first session at Peachy Psychological Services is a calm and supportive starting point. We begin by gathering a few essential details, then gently explore what’s brought you to therapy and how CBT may help. It’s an opportunity to get to know your therapist, ask questions, and begin building a shared understanding of your goals.
Sessions are typically 60 minutes in duration. Occasionally, longer sessions may be agreed depending on your needs and therapy goals.
Before your first session, it may be helpful to reflect on what you’d like support with and when the difficulties began. Sometimes there’s a clear trigger, and sometimes it’s less obvious. Bringing recent examples and thinking about what you hope to gain from therapy can make your first sessions more focused and meaningful.
